What Are Pokémon VSTAR?

Pokémon VSTAR evolve from Pokémon V. Each Pokémon VSTAR hasa potent VSTAR Power, and each player can use only 1 VSTAR Power per game.VSTAR Powers come in two varieties, Abilities and attacks, and both candrastically alter the course of a battle. As you might expect, Pokémon VSTAR alsohave high HP and high-damage attacks to back up their VSTAR Powers. And likePokémon V, you’re rewarded with 2 Prize cards when they’re Knocked Out. Let’stake a closer look at a couple Pokémon VSTAR you can find in the Sword &Shield—Brilliant Stars expansion.

With thisAbility at your disposal, you’ll be able to snag the cards you need no matterthe situation. Arceus VSTAR also has the Trinity Nova attack, which does 200damage and allows you to search your deck for up to 3 basic Energy cards andattach them to your Pokémon V in any way you like.

Charizard VSTAR

Charizard VSTAR has the Star BlazeVSTAR Power, an attack that hits for a massive 320 damage. You have to discard 2Energy from Charizard VSTAR when you use the attack, but it’s sure to proveuseful against even the strongest opponent. For its other attack, it can useExplosive Fire to do 230 damage if there are any damage counters on it already.Your opponent should definitely get nervous when you bring Charizard VSTAR intoplay!

Cards to Watch For

In addition to incredible Pokémon VSTAR, Sword &Shield—Brilliant Stars has plenty of other great cards, many of which workwell in decks that feature Pokémon VSTAR. Here are some other cards you shouldkeep an eye on.

As mentioned above, Pokémon VSTARcan’t come into play unless you evolve them from Pokémon V. And like Arceus VSTAR,Arceus V is useful for building up a sturdy foundation. Its Trinity Chargeattack lets you search your deck for up to 3 basic Energy cards and attach themto your Pokémon V in any way you like. It’s a great way to prepare your team tounleash a lot of punishment.

Charizard V

Charizard V can evolve intoCharizard VSTAR, of course, but don’t overlook its own impressive attacks. Notonly will Incinerate do 90 damage, but it also discards all Pokémon Tools fromyour opponent’s Active Pokémon. The Heat Blast attack can also be used to do awhopping 180 damage.

Other Useful Cards

As always, the new expansionfeatures plenty of Trainer cards and Special Energy cards to boost theeffectiveness of your deck. Double Turbo Energy, for example, hasgood synergy with Arceus VSTAR. It provides two Colorless Energy, but theattacks of the Pokémon it’s attached to will do 20 less damage. The upside isyou’re able to use attacks with a high Energy cost quicker.

Cheren’s Care allows you to put 1 ofyour Colorless-type Pokémon that has any damage counters on it (along with anyattached cards) back into your hand. It’s perfect for any Pokémon that’s on theverge of being Knocked Out.

Kindler lets you look at the top 7 cards ofyour deck and put up to 2 of them into your hand. You’ll have to discard a FireEnergy card from your hand to use it, but it can help you get a card you needinto play.

Speaking of discarded Fire Energy, the Magma Basin Stadium card allows youto attach a Fire Energy from your discard pile to 1 of your Benched Fire-typePokémon once during your turn. If you do, however, you must place 2 damagecounters on that Pokémon. Even so, remember that Charizard VSTAR’s ExplosiveFire attack benefits from having damage counters on that Pokémon.

It may not be a Trainer card, but Moltres also works well with Magma Basin. ItsInferno Wings attack does a total of 90 damage if there are any damage counterson it. Since Inferno Wings requires only one Fire Energy to use, you’ll be ableto use this attack right away.

Product came in pretty normal for every online box I have ever purchased. Factory sealed except for one corner (which I’ve seen on brand new stock sent to my local shop, no alarm there) and all the packs were in the box upright. Nintendo and their TCG manu/distribution did not make enough in the first two waves that were sent out and I believe we are starting to see the issues with this. I am missing just under half of my code cards that should have come in a booster box (I have 20 out of the 36). Many of my packs had no code card, others had multiples. I’ve never had this happen from my local card shops, but I don’t believe the seller did anything to the product as some suggest. This seems to be an issue resulting from ramped up production speed by the manufacturer of the cards.
