How to evolve kadabra into alakazam without trading in pokemon brilliant diamond

Some Pokémon require a bit more work to evolve besides raising their level or holding special items. With Kadabra, you’ll need the help of another trainer to evolve it in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond/Shining Pearl.
How to Evolve Kadabra in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond/Shining Pearl
So, you have your hands on Kadabra. This Pokémon has some strong stats in its own right. However, if you want the even more powerful Alakazam, then you need to work on evolving Kadabra.
On one hand, it’s a good thing that you don’t have to worry about its level. There’s no minimum required, so there’s no worry about ensuring you take Kadabra with you on every battle unless you want to. On the other hand, you need another trainer if you want to evolve Kadabra in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond/Shining Pearl. This means it’s time to find a friend that plays the game.
You have to trade your Kadabra with another trainer, and you can trade for any Pokémon as it doesn’t matter. Once you make the trade, Kadabra will automatically evolve into Alakazam. From there, just trade back.
To make a trade, head to any Pokémon Center and go to the second floor. In the Union Room, you can trade with players nearby or anywhere else in the world.
How to Locate Kadabra
If you haven’t evolved an Abra into Kadabra, then you need to find the latter Pokémon to get Alakazam.
When out exploring the region, you can find Kadabra in caves or tall grass. Search in the following locations:
- Road 215 (rare)
- Victory Road 2F (uncommon)
Additionally, you can head to the Grand Underground and explore the following areas:
- Dazzling Cave (Defog)
- Stargleam Cavern (Defog)

It’s nice to play with friends, especially when they help you evolve Kadabra in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond/Shining Pearl. Just do a quick trade with a trusted trainer, evolve Kadabra into Alakazam, and then trade it back. Then you can explore the game with the classic Pokémon.
Pokémon Brilliant Diamond/Shining Pearl is available on Nintendo Switch.
Since the very first generation of Pokémon games, a handful of Pokémon have only been able to reach their peak evolutionary forms through the act of two trainers trading them. In-universe, this is explained away as some kind of minor radiation absorbed during the trading process. Out of universe, it was a mild annoyance, as it required you to convince your parents to buy you a link cable. Thankfully, link cables aren’t a thing anymore, nor do you need to be right next to someone to trade with them, so the process is much simpler. Case in point, here’s how to evolve Kadabra into Alakazam in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl.
As my little lead-in no doubt tipped you off, Alakazam is one of the few Pokémon that can only be obtained through a trade evolution. It’s a chore, but one certainly worth undertaking, as Alakazam is one of the strongest pure Psychic types in the entire National PokèDex, with a raw DPS potential beaten out only by legendary Psychic types like Mewtwo. If you want to get one, you’ll need to evolve an Abra into a Kadabra, then find a trusted friend to perform a trade with.
How to Evolve Kadabra into Alakazam in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl
To evolve Kadabra into Alakazam in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl:
- Evolve an Abra into a Kadabra and bring it with you to a Union Room at a Pokémon Center
- Arrange to trade the Kadabra for any other Pokémon with another trainer.
- Kadabra will evolve into Alakazam immediately following the trade, at which point you just need to trade back.
Setting up trades is simple; just take the escalator up to the second floor of any Pokémon Center to visit the Union Room, where you can trade with folks either near you or elsewhere in the world. You should arrange to do this with someone you know and trust, however, just to ensure they don’t run off with your Pokémon.
When you’ve got your trade partner, simply offer up your Kadabra in exchange for any old Pokémon and perform the trade. The Kadabra will immediately evolve into an Alakazam on your trade partner’s side. Once that’s done, just swap ‘em back, and you’ve got your Alakazam.

Kadabra is one of the many Pokémon you’ll be trying to get in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl. You can get it by finding it in the wild or by evolving an Abra. But it does have a third evolution, Alakazam. There’s a specific method you need to follow if you want to evolve Kadabra into Alakazam. In this guide, we’re going to share with you how to evolve Kadabra into Alakazam in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl.
The only way you’ll be able to evolve Kadabra is if you trade it with another player. You’ll want to exchange it with a player you trust, though, so they can return the Pokémon to you in its evolved state. You can trade it with any player that has Pokémon Brilliant Diamond or Shining Pearl. It should not matter.
When you make the trade, Kadabra will immediately evolve into Alakazam. You’ll want to make the trade to each other again and receive your Alakazam. Alternatively, the other player can send you a Kadabra they caught. But a trade does need to happen for Kadabra to evolve into Alakazam. You can do this at any level with Kadabra, but you may not want to rush if you wish to your Kadabra to learn certain moves before it becomes Alakazam.
Evolutions are a big part of the game in the Pokémon franchise. They’re useful for combat, but also can be just kind of cool to look at. There are plenty of Trainers out there that want to capture all 493 Pokémon in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, and that’s what our guides are designed to do.
There’s also a bunch of other methods for getting Pokémon into the dex. One of the more common methods in older Gens is Trade evolutions. This is one of the methods Game Freak uses to entice buyers to grab both versions of effectively the same game. By combining this trading system with version exclusives, a lot of players do buy both in each generation.
Alakazam is one of the few Pokémon that can only be obtained through a trade evolution in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl. This means you need to trade Kadabra to another trainer to evolve Kadabra into Alakazam. You will need to find someone you can trust to do this with.
Evolution items are a big part of the game now, in this modern era of Pokémon. There are tons of evolution stones and other items you need to hunt for, like the Reaper Cloth. One of the items you need to find to get the 400+ Dex filled is the Protector. This evolution item is used for a specific evolution, Rhyperior. There are both stat-boosting and evolution items you might want. You could also be hunting for the Electrizer, which is useful for getting Electabuzz.
How to Evolve Kadabra into Alakazam in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl
Once you have the Kadabra, you can then take it to the Union Room for a trade. ake the escalator up to the second floor of any Pokémon Center to visit the Union Room. This is where the trading section of the game takes place. Arrange with a friend, preferably one with another Trade evolution, and have them get online.
Once you’re both in the Union room and ready to trade, you can begin. You can enter an open Global Room, if you just want to go for any random battles or trades. To avoid getting scammed, it’s best to find a friend and use the Link Code system. You can also create a Local Room to connect with nearby friends or players via a local network.
The one catch is that you need an NSO sub if you plan to play online. Whatever method you pick, perform the trade and get your Pokémon back.
The process to evolve Kadabra into Alakazam should kick off after you finish the trade. If you traded for another trade evolution, this should happen for that one as well.
