Can you trade pokemon from black and white to x and y

Nintendo has posted a detailed FAQ on the Pokemon X and Y website detailing how the Pokemon Bank storage and Poke Transporter services will work when they launch next month.

Pokemon Bank will offer users 100 boxes in which 30 Pokemon each can be stored, giving players a total of 3,000 extra digital spaces in which to store their Pokemon. On the FAQ page, Nintendo notes that this is double the space previously available in external Pokemon storage solutions, including GameCube’s Pokemon Box Ruby and Sapphire. The Bank app only needs to be downloaded once for use across multiple copies of Pokemon X and Y and includes search and batch move features, allowing players to easily locate and move groups of Pokemon.

Deposited Pokemon will be monitored by Nintendo to ensure Pokemon that are hacked or created by “unauthorized” means aren’t stored. Details on what these checks will be have not been released, as Nintendo believes the information “could be used in an effort to circumvent such checks in the future.”

Moving forward, Nintendo is posing Pokemon Bank as the main method of moving Pokemon between generations of games, which is how the company justifies the $4.99 annual usage fee. Yearly subscriptions “will allow the service to be maintained long-term so it can provide support for future Pokémon titles” and “enable the management and maintenance needed to allow everyone access to the online storage,” according to the FAQ.

Previous-generation Pokemon from Pokémon Black, White, Black 2 and White 2 can be transported to Pokemon X and Y through the Poke Transporter app. This free app allows players to insert a cartridge from the DS or 3DS versions of the aforementioned games and add their Pokemon to Pokemon Bank. Nintendo notes that Pokemon transported out of these games cannot be transported back into them, and Poke Transporter cannot be used without Pokemon Bank. Pokemon holding Berries and another items cannot be transported.

Nintendo did not share details on what happens if a subscription to Pokemon Bank runs out while a player’s Pokemon are stored on it; more information on this feature will be shared closed to the app’s launch.

Currently these two apps are only compatible between Pokemon X and Y and Pokemon Black, White, Black 2 and White 2. However, Nintendo notes that is it possible to trade into X and Y Pokemon from other previous generation games by trading them into the Black and White suite of games first. Detailed instructions on how to do this are available on the FAQ.

Pokemon Bank and Poke Transporter will launch in Japan and Korea on Dec. 25, and in North America, Australia and Europe on Dec. 27. A free trial period for Pokemon Bank will be available shorty after launch, which can be utilized by downloading the app before Feb. 1, 2014.

This section describes How to Transfer Your Pokemon to X and Y using the Pokemon Bank and Poke Transporter app for the Nintendo 3DS. The App was set to release on December 27, 2013, but Nintendo postponed it on the 26th since the eShop was taken down for maintenance. The Pokemon Bank was released in North America on February 5th, 2014.

Pokemon Bank

Pokemon Bank is an application that allows you to upload and store up to 3000 Pokemon to the internet, manage them, and download them to any of your Pokemon X and Y games.

The service will require an annual fee of $4.99, but a free trial period will be available from February 5 until March 14th, 2014.[1].

Download the app onto the 3DS to use it with any number of physical or digital copies of Pokemon X and Y at any time after obtaining your Pokedex in the game. You can then use the Pokemon Link option at the main menu of X and Y to receive the Pokemon.

Earn Poke Miles or Battle Points

Deposit enough Pokemon into the Pokemon Bank to earn either Poke Miles or Battle Points.

Poke Miles can be exchanged for select items in Lumiose City, or they can be exchanged at the Pokemon Global Link. See the Poke Miles page for more info.

Battle Points can be exchanged for select items in the Battle Maison in Kiloude City. See the Battle Maison page for a full list of available items.

Poke Transporter

Pokemon Bank will also be bundled with another app called Poke Transporter. This app allows you to upload Pokemon from Black, White, Black 2, and White 2 to the Pokemon Bank. The transfer is one way, which means they cannot be withdrawn to those generation five games.

Poke Transporter will not be available without Pokemon Bank!

To use the Poke Transporter, move your Pokemon to the first box in your copy of Black, White, Black 2, or White 2. Open up Poke Transporter and transfer all Pokemon in the first box over to the Pokemon Bank’s transfer box. Open up Pokemon Bank and transfer the Pokemon from the transfer box to the other boxes. This can be done one at a time or by selecting multiple Pokemon by clicking the SELECT button before choosing Pokemon with the A button. Empty the transfer box and fill box one again in your game before using the Poke Transporter.

Special Kalos Events

You may have noticed certain NPCs asking about specific Legendary Pokemon in the Kalos Region. Bring these Pokemon to certain people in Kalos to trigger special events. Examples shown in the pictures below include:

  • A girl in Kiloude City asks to see a Kyurem
  • A man in the Ambrette Town Fossil Lab asks to see a Genesect
  • A woman at the end of Reflection Cave asks to see a Tornadus
  • A woman in the Snowbelle City Pokemon Center asks to see a Shaymin

Get a Free Celebi!

You can receive a free Celebi just for downloading and using Pokemon Bank with a copy of Pokemon X and Y. Follow the simple steps below to receive your free Pokemon:

  1. Download and open Pokemon Bank with a copy of Pokemon X and Y in your 3DS. If you have the digital version, you don’t have to worry about putting a game card in.
  2. “Purchase” the free pass after opening the App, just make sure to complete these steps before the 30 day trial is up.
  3. Select “Use Pokemon Bank” and choose your copy of Pokemon X or Y. You will receive 100 Poke Miles or 10 Battle Points for free. The more Pokemon you store in the Pokemon Bank, the more Poke Miles or Battle Points you get.
  4. Place a Pokemon in your Pokemon Bank from Pokemon X or Y, or use the Poke Transporter to add Pokemon to the Pokemon Bank from Black, Black 2, White, or White 2. Save and exit when you’re done.
  5. Exit out of the app and start up your copy of Pokemon X and Y. Choose “Pokemon Link” from the main menu of Pokemon X and Y and retrieve data. You should receive your Battle Points or Poke Miles for doing this.
  6. Exit out of the game and open the Pokemon Bank app back up. Select a Pokemon X or Y game card and you’ll receive your Celebi.
  7. Open up Pokemon X and Y once more and select Pokemon Link again to receive Celebi in-game. It will be deposited in your first box. The Nature will be random.

Pokemon can be Transferred as far back as Generation 3 using certain means. If you’re not sure how to do this, read the steps below.

  • Generation three Pokemon can be transferred to Generation four if you have a DS with both the DS and GBA ports. Transfer the Pokemon using Pal Park in Generation four games.
  • Generation four Pokemon can be transferred to Generation five games if you have two DS or 3DS systems. Transfer the Pokemon using the Poke Transfer Lab in Generation five games.
  • Generation five Pokemon can be transferred to Generation six games using the Poke Transporter and Pokemon Bank 3DS apps. Those Pokemon can then be downloaded on to Pokemon X and Y.

Additional Notes

For the full FAQ, see the Pokemon X and Y page on this subject. We’ve highlighted a few note-worthy answers below:

  • Poke Transporter will not be available without Pokemon Bank.
  • You will need an internet connection to use Pokemon Bank.
  • All legal, non-hacked Pokemon can be transferred to the Pokemon Bank.
  • Depositing or withdrawing Pokemon will NOT cause them to evolve if they normally evolve through Trading.
  • If your Pokemon is holding an item, the item will be dropped and sent to your bag before it is transferred to the Bank. If your bag is full, the item will disappear.
  • If you still have Pokemon in the Pokemon Bank when the trial or annual fee period passes, you will have a short time to withdraw your Pokemon. If you don’t withdraw them in this short period, the Pokemon will be lost.
